The Gombe State Project Coordinator, Engr Mohammed Adamu and the Natural Resources Officer, Mohammed Musa Aliyu of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) have been presented with certificates of excellent performance. The duo received the honour from the Youth Tree Planting Association, an environmental non-Governmental organization in Gombe State.
While presenting the awards, the coordinator of the association, Musa Adamu commended NEWMAP for its afforestation activities which has succeeded in planting huge number of trees in less than five years. An accomplishment he observed would have taken about thirty years to to achieve.
Receiving the award, Gombe NEWMAP PC, Engr Mohammed Garba commended the activities of the group, while encouraging them and other environmental NGOs to advocate the sustainable use of trees in communities. He encouraged them to key into the dream of the State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya which is to turn Gombe State into a green environment through NEWMAP and the Gombe Goes Green – 3G project, an effort which has already resulted in the planting of over 3 million trees.
Reinstating their commitment, the group promised that it will continue to support NEWMAP’s activities and play their part in achieving the greening and preservation of Gombe State environment.
