PC GOMBE GOES GREEN COMMENDS NEWMAP

The Project Coordinator of Gombe Goes Green-3G Project, Dr. Muhammad Tafida has commended the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) for supporting the current administration in Gombe State in planting trees. Dr Tafida who gave the commendation on Saturday at the office of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) along Bauchi Road while participating in the weekly NEWMAP tree planting said Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has already given a marching order for NEWMAP to plant 500 trees a week while 3G will plant at least 200 trees on daily basis until the end of the rainy season.

While commending Governor Inuwa Yahaya for the initiative, Dr Tafida said Gombe is already becoming green, adding that the importance of planting trees to preserve the environment can never be overemphasized. In his remarks, the Gombe State NEWMAP Project Coordinator, Engr. Mohammed Garba said the tree planting was in support of the 3G initiative of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya which is to plant over one million trees before the end of the wet season. He commended the NGOs for their participation in the tree planting campaign and called on people to always protect the trees. Earlier, Gombe NEWMAP natural resource officer, Mohammed Musa Aliyu encouraged citizens of the State to plant more trees to preserve the environment. He said this is the 8th week of tree planting campaign by NEWMAP within Gombe metropolis and environs as well as other local government areas. Also speaking, Gombe State Chairman of Youth Tree Planting Association, Musa Adamu Haruna, who commended the initiative of planting trees, enjoined people of the State to nurture the trees within their domains to maturity.

The tree planting exercise by NEWMAP had the participation of the SSA Security Matters, Yusuf Musa Danbayo, the Gombe State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Ishaku Gambi Ibrahim and Coordinators of Jewel Environmental Initiative and Youth Tree Planting Association, Community Environmental Initiative and Empowerment amongst others.
